  46. The Geek Gadgets CD-ROM (Amiga Developers 
  47. Environment) from Cronus, will contain a developers 
  48. release of p.OS and all necessary tools for p.OS 
  49. development. Using these tools, it is possible to 
  50. write programs that run on both p.OS and AmigaOS 
  51. using the same binary file.ÿ A shared library that runs 
  52. on both operating systems provides applications 
  53. with all necessary ANSI C and POSIX support, while 
  54. special startup code allows programs to determine at 
  55. startup whether they are running on p.OS or 
  56. AmigaOS and make the appropriate system calls.ÿ 
  57. Using this technique, the development tools 
  58. themselves run on either operating system with 
  59. negligible overhead or increased binary size.
  60. <p>
  61. The p.OS developer release requires an m68020 (or 
  62. higher) processor, a hard drive, and a minimum of 2 
  63. MB of RAM.  Applications developed for this 
  64. portable operating system are source code 
  65. compatible with p.OS ports to other architectures 
  66. such as the PowerPC.  With a simple recompile, 
  67. developers of p.OS applications can reach the 
  68. entire installed base of p.OS users, regardless of the 
  69. underlying hardware.ÿ By porting to p.OS now, 
  70. developers will be able to take advantage of easy 
  71. migration to future p.OS releases on other 
  72. architectures and enjoy the benefits of hardware 
  73. independence (and a brighter market).
